Vegan, Day 1.

By January 18, 2012Life

Well a friend of mine who was booking a doctor as a guest for John Tesh’s radio show just freaked my freak. She read this doctor’s whole book so she could write the questions for Mr. Tesh, and this doctor basically says to NEVER eat any meat. That human bodies were not designed to digest that or dairy for that matter. Of course while she was telling me this I had just picked up some In-N-Out and was drinking a delicious Chocolate shake. As I sucked down my creamy treat listening to her warning about my health I swear I could almost feel the dairy starting to destroy my body. The overwhelming delicious flavor made me continue but I didn’t drink it all.

I decided to start today, January 18th 2012, attempting to be a Vegan. I bought a boat load of veggies and set out to not eat any dairy or meat today. I had a good breakfast, Oatmeal, half a grapefruit and half a cup of home brewed Peets Arabia Mocha Java. Then for lunch I ate a large salad, quarter cup a rice and a cup of sauteed veggies. For a snack I had an organic Honeycrisp apple with peanut butter and some nuts and dried cranberries. I will most probably have a juice shake, with veggie protein in it for dinner. So far I feel good. I got SUPER hungry later in the day but I guess that is part of it.

I am hoping to lose 67 pounds this year. Hopefully before my birthday but that may be a bit unreal because that is 5 months away but maybe!

OMG!!! I scared the shit out of you hahaha, that was NOT my intention, I was just venting to you how freaked out I was!! I’m so sorry!! BUT I’m proud of you!!! Honestly, the stuff I read is the stuff of nightmares!!! YOU CAN DO IT!! Chipotle – still on the menu, chinese – still on the menu, japanese – go for the noodle soups and LORD please LORD try some vietnamese – try a BUN (it’s the noodles w/salad and no broth), go for a veggie BUN option with lots of hot sauce and the yummy vinegar dressing that comes with it. Even taco bell is on your menu, just get a bean burrito and add hot sauce. Also, as much as Nick will SCREAM bloody murder, get him off those hamburgers…soooo bad for his tummy, his heart and his hormones (even if it’s hormone free), it’s SO bad for kids. If you want me to give you the book and papers i did the research from, I will. As a Mom, you need to see it. You have the gluten free thing down with Landon, you need to check out the stuff for Nicky. YOU ARE AMAZING YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!! Also, if you feel like you’re going to cheat or freak…worst case scenario, GOAT’S MILK FETA, but ONLY with a LARGE SALAD!!!! 🙂 Has to be GOAT’S MILK tho! xoxoxoo!!!!!

Also remember that anytime you detox from something like meat or dairy or gluten or sugar…your body is going to FLIP…BUT that’s only cause you’re giving it a PROPER chance to start pushing out the toxins…that othewise you’ve just had hanging out in there. Remember what I said about the mitochondria…they can’t eat all the fat that is in meat, so it just turns to poison, that just floats around making you sick and fat (not that YOU are fat, just generally speaking) and leads to heart disease and Diabetes…which kills more women than Breast Cancer EVERYDAY. Cancer isn’t always avoidable, but Diabetes and Heart Disease IS, it’s totally up to the person to do right by their body! I haven’t eaten meat now in days…or dairy. BUT I have a small brick of Goat’s Milk feta as a back up in case I start to freak. So take it easy, but YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Nora, this is really awesome. I stumbled on veganism completely by accident so I never had to deal with cold turkey withdrawls. I was nostalgically picking up the tofutti cream cheese and other hinky vegany foods my ex-girlfriend always had at her place (I get sinusy when I eat dairy anyway) and totally digging them when about a month later a good friend of mine starting discussing the ethics of animal treatment and the freshness of marketed meats, etc. Bottom line, the way we hunt and eat meat ain’t a damn thing like a lion picking off a single animal from a herd and gnawing on it’s butt right there. We mass produce animals for slaughter and take so long to eat the meat it’s basically rotten… MMMMYUM! (ever wonder why it needs so much seasoning otherwise the taste is pretty awful?)

And Crissy’s info above is AWESOME! I had no idea about a lot of the stuff she mentions and I def want to know more.

Devil’s advocate though… (sorry) if you find yourself desperately craving a slice of pizza, do your best to eat something else but it is ok to just eat the slice of pizza, hun. I read a good book by Portia di Rossi called Unbearable Lightness which really woke me up to not needing so many rules, just listening to your body and your “inner nutritionist”… and I can tell you that the more you do this, the less your body will tell you it wants pizza. You will finally start hearing what it’s been screaming for years which is “give me some minerals! i’m dying for a zucchini right now!” “i would kill for a mango!” etc etc. And frequent snacking on raw yummies like fruits/veggies/nuts will really save you.

Good luck and big vegan hugs 🙂
