Young Adult- Not for the young or feint of heart.

By | Movies | No Comments

I saw this movie at a screener on the Paramount Lot. Just walking through the lot itself was magical. Like being in another country. I was prepared for biting social commentary from Diablo Cody. I love her earlier works. She says it like she sees it with no magical coating on it. This movie is no different. Did you ever wonder what happened to the girl who had literally EVERYTHING? Does she live in a magical castle with rainbow slides that take her from room to room? Does she still have the best looking man and all the perfect clothes?

Well according to Diablo Cody – HELL NO! This is a wake up call for all the spoiled, self involved, evil girls out there. This is exactly what is waiting for you if you keep on the track that you are on. You will end up alone, pathetic and the most lonely person on the planet. It was brutal to watch this unfold. To know that I might have actually known someone like this in high school pains me.

The girl who had it all in my class, Homecoming Queen, Head Cheerleader, Dating the Quarterback, graduated top of class, she went on to join the National Guard, became a pilot and now is a commercial pilot for Southwest. So there are success’s too but you got make it happen. She was also one of the nicest people that I have ever known.

See this movie. Take that girl from High School. It isn’t too late to save her from herself.

Sherlock Holmes- The Game is AFOOT!!

I am such a gigantic Robert Downey Jr. fan already, I really didn’t think I could love him more.

Then I saw Sherlock Holmes- A Game of Shadows.

WOW!!!! I can’t say enough good things about this movie. Guy Richie does a tremendous job with this one. Not only is it visually stunning at every turn but he truly captures the grittiness of this time in London. Just grey and dark and mysterious. RDJ is one amazing actor. This turn you see so many more facets of Sherlock. And the true friendship between him and Watson just shines. Jude Law is wonderful as well. The chemistry is so great between them. You can tell they are friends in real life.

This movie takes the essence of all of the great Sherlock novels and puts it on the screen. To see the rivalry and game between Moriarty and Sherlock was fantastic. To see that battle of wits and diabolicalness unfold as beautifully as it was done in this film gives new meaning to “Art”. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol = AWESOMENESS!!

By | Movies | No Comments

I was a HUGE fan of the original TV series. I used to watch it with my father and that was when I fell in love with mystery shows. I HATED the first Mission Impossible. The second one was forgettable and I LOVED the third one which frankly should have been the first one but Ghost Protocol knocked it out of the park! This movie was SO exciting that I didn’t stop gripping my seat for the entire movie. There was just CONSTANT action happening.

Tom Cruise at 50 has still got it all, looks, moes and sex appeal. I still am reeling at the magnitude of the stunts that he performed in this movie. Just crazy amazing. The story moved very well and there was something for everyone. This was the best, straight action movie of the year and should definitely get some nods for cinematography. Pretty fantastic. If you want to go on a date night and see something really exciting I would head out and see Ghost Protocol! Worth the price of admission for sure!

The Ides go Marching in! Oh the Ides go Marching in!

I wanted to see this movie all summer. I waited and waited. And finally Ryan Gossling’s third movie of the year came out. I don’t want to just go on a roll here about Ryan, but sincerely he has made 3 of the best films of the year. Crazy, Stupid, Love had me in stitches. I LOVED Ides of March and Drive is hands down the movie of the year. Hands down.

But back to Ides. Ryan and George play so expertly off each other in this film it is hard to know who the bad guy really is. Maybe that is the point. Politics is dirty pool no matter what. Even when you dive in feet first and tell everyone, “Hey this is me, I have ideals and if you like them vote for me!” This movie shows you that behind all the smiles and promises and all that lies, well, LIES and deception beyond imagination.

The fact that George Clooney gave a fantastic performance in this movie and DIRECTED this movie just blew my mind. It was so well put together and had my engaged the entire movie. It was paced well and the story really flowed nicely. Evan Rachel Wood was fantastic and Phillip Seymor Hoffman again just amazed me.

Definitely if this movie is still in a theater near you see it. It is wonderful!

The Descendants

This movie touched me on so many levels. This was the first time that I saw George Clooney playing a regular person. No veneers on his teeth, no perfect hair, no perfect clothes, just him raw. It was AMAZING. He was sincerely breathtaking in this movie. This story of family torn apart by secrets and death and how do you deal with that.

This story was so real and raw I felt honestly like I was in someones living room watching this tragedy unfold before my eyes. The fact that it takes place in Hawaii only adds to the sorrow. How somewhere so majestic could be filled with such sadness is beyond me. But this story takes you all over the roller coaster of emotion and leaves you, finally content with life and content with these people. You know they are going to make it and you want them to.

Please see this movie. It is so good!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy UGH I need a NAP!

By | Movies | No Comments

Gary Oldman I love you, I REALLY do and if it weren’t for you this movie might have actually put me in a coma. It is worth seeing the movie just to see Gary’s unbelievable performance but sincerely, this is the SLOWEST, DULLEST spy movie I have ever seen. The trailer for this film is brilliant because you think this is going to  be the sophisticated version of Mission Impossible and it is but it is so boring you don’t care. Really I left this film so tired I just wanted to stay in my seat and nap for a while.

This movie takes your through “The Circus” which I suppose is the clever code for MI6 in England, in the 70’s. It is a sad, slow tale of Cold War era spy stuff that takes you around the world and does have you guessing through the movie, who is it going to be. But honestly when the final reveal came I forgot why I cared at all. There was a lot of unrequited love and some forbidden love in this movie which could have made for a much fuller film but instead it was shoved aside for more important long scenes with no talking!

I would wait for this on HBO and take your time with some tea enjoying Gary being a character you have never seen him do before. Like I said he is worth it.

I hope New Years this year has less cheese than “New Years Eve”!

I went to see this movie with my mother. We both walked into the theater expecting total fluff. We got total fluff. But I found myself loving and hating the fluff at the same time. Yes it is a feel good movie and everything good works out and there were sad parts and all that. But I am left with a bad taste in my mouth about 2 of the story lines presented. Firstly, despite all the rumors I can definitively say that Lea Michele is NOT the reason Demi and Ashton broke up. There was beyond ZERO chemistry between these two. Just really bad. There is no way that he wanted to kiss her at all. That was evident throughout their scenes.

The second storyline that was just beyond ridiculous for me is after literally the entire movie build up of the mystery woman that Josh Duhamel, and being led to think that it was going to be Hillary Swank (which would be believable) we find him meeting, Sarah Jessica Parker. WHAT??? She is so WAY older than him and I had to be a SJP hater but she is not the cute Sex and the City SJP any more. She is old, frumpy, mom looking SJP. Just not believable. Made the end of the movie a Debbie Downer, Wha wha, for me.

It is fun and Gary Marshal in classic fashion weaves together stories that don’t seem to go together but do. Robert De Niro is amazing and the movie is worth seeing just for his performance.

Martha Marcy May Marlene oh my!

I had really high hopes going into this movie. I was delightfully surprised to find out that there is an Olsen sister who CAN in fact act. The one nobody has heard of Elizabeth Olsen. She was outstanding in her role. The movie is a psychological thriller but it just goes no where.

And the ending leave WAY too much to be desired. The movie was too tediously slow to to make the nonexistant ending in any way acceptable. Really I literally turned to my friend that was in the theater with me and in unison we said, “Really???? What the WHAT?” It was so shocking. Just appallingly bad. I wouldn’t rent this movie, maybe I could recommend watching it in the comfort of your own home on HBO or something. Maybe.

HUGO!!!!

This movie is still haunting my mind. It shows visually and emotionally why I LOVE movies. What makes them magic. If you have ever tried to explain what it is about movies that just grabs you and takes you on a magic carpet ride, through emotions and imagination, and you couldn’t quite describe it. This movie does that.

It shows the magic in all of its glory and wonder. It is magical itself. Glorious to behold. Scorsese has truly outdone himself with this movie. Brilliant all around. I loved every moment of this movie. Go see it and experience the magic that is the movies.

My Week With Marilyn . . . WHAT a week!

By | Movies | No Comments

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this movie. There have been many attempts at making a Movie about Marilyn and they have all failed miserably. I was prepared to be disappointed thoroughly. But not only was a delightfully surprised at every performance in this film but the imagery was spot on as well.

The brilliance of this film is it was about Marilyn but not a biopic of her life. It is all from the viewpoint of this gopher on a set in England, when Marilyn was doing a movie with Lawrence Oliver. So you see all facets of Marilyn, good and bad and learn about her without having to dredge into her entire life story.

The performances in this movie were simply outstanding. Michelle Williams was amazing and Kenneth Branagh gives, sincerely a perfect performance. If you love movies and you love Marilyn then go see this. You will see her as never before and get to see stunning visuals along the journey.
