Pacific Rim

YES!!!! This movie was tremendous. A rocking ride through a special effects wonder. This movie has it all, Aliens, Robots, the Apocalypse, HOT HOT HOT men and comedy. It was fun and fun to watch.

This is what Battleship should have been. I know many people looked at the trailer for this and thought that it was going to be a disaster but it actually has a very good story line and CGI to back up the hype. It was scary and exciting and fun for both me and my husband. Definitely a PERFECT date movie!!

The Way Way Back

I Love LOVE LOVED this movie. I loved every moment of it.

A true coming of age family story that shows how being yourself is always the winning formula. Whether that is with new people or your parents. It made me laugh and cry and fall in love with being alive and being me.

PLEASE go see this movie. It will make life WONDERFUL!

The Lone Ranger- UGH!

By | Movies | No Comments

Dear Johnny Depp UGH!

Really Johnny? REALLY? This movie was a rehash of a rehash of your Captain Jack character in a different getup. The story was HORRIBLE and jumbled and incoherent. I am not a Native American, I don’t have that privilege, but this character was so racist, so inappropriate that I was angry for them.

Also Disney, REALLY? THIS is the way you want to portray the Lone Ranger? As a whiny, wimp who can’t decide what is right at all? The Lone Ranger is as American as Uncle Sam and he was almost wimpier than Anakin Skywalker in the horrific Star Wars Episodes I-III.

This should have been called The WIMPY Ranger. Barf! WORST movie I saw all year!

Kids Movies this Summer

I went with my boys to see Three of the big movies for the summer.

Monsters University, Turbo and Despicable Me 2.

Monsters U was a MAJOR disappointment. PIXAR took a beloved character, Sully, and reduced him down to the A-Typical Jock jerk. So sad. I hated that. And the story was stale and not that funny. My boys however LOVED it.

Turbo was a ridiculous jaunt into the absurd where a snail who gains turbo power by falling into a nitro charged illegal street racer and then racing actual formula 1 drivers and winning was a mess of racial stereotypes mixed with a brother story on two fronts. Too jumbled for me but again my boys LOVED it.

Despicable Me 2 was funny and a really good follow up to the first movie. It was entertaining and very well done. The love story aspect wasn’t over or under done and the humor was good. And yes my boys LOVED it.

White House Down

Well this movie was exactly what I thought it was. A flag twirler saving the world.

This movie was so predictable. The SECOND that I saw Channing Tatum’s “Daughter” in the movie and that he had missed her talent show and her talent was “Flag Twirling” I knew immediately that she and her talent would save the day and she did.

The action was decent and the effects were good. But otherwise a snooze fest highlighted by witty banter and Channing Tatum.

World War Z

I didn’t read the book. My sister did. She said that it was TOTALLY different than the book but in a good way.

I really LOVED this movie. I am NOT  a zombie/horror movie person at ALL. It is rare that you will see me review one on here. It has to take something really special to make me go to one.

And YES that something special was Brad Pitt. Duh. That is why my mom went too. He was so good in this movie and I thought that the approach to the Zombie genre was new and refreshing. Finally a REASON that people are zombies that makes sense and how to handle it. The way this one ends I can see a sequel for sure. I hope they make it!

Man of Steel oh MY!!!

This movie was everything that I wanted from Superman and more.

Note, this movie is darkER than the Christopher Reeve versions but less dark and drab than the last one. Henry Cavill does an AMAZING job walking the line between Clark and Kal-El. And this movie is about Superman, not Clark until the end. Then there is, what I would call a seamless transition to Clark and what will for sure be an exciting sequel to this movie.

Many people were dismayed by the destruction in this movie. Like why didn’t Superman move the fight to the middle of nowhere so regular people won’t get hurt. And that is the point. He is LEARNING. He is NEW to the whole concept of being Superman and doing these things. PS he was also fighting someone with powers equal to his that was hellbent on destroying the whole planet. I was personally happy he just got down to kicking some but and wasn’t asking o take the fight elsewhere, because I am pretty sure that General Zod wasn’t going to accommodate any of Superman’s requests.

I want MORE Henry as Superman!!!! Definitely a winner!

This is the End

This movie was so inappropriately funny! And by inappropriate I mean I was sitting next to my mother during the film. I was embarrassed to no end to be laughing so hard at this raunchy humor in front of her. I was worried that she was HATING this movie and that at any second she was going to stand up and march out of the movie.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. She LOVED it and was laughing right along with me. This movie was twists and turns of hilarity and some crazy CGI. Definitely see this movie with friends. It is SUPER fun!

The Internship

This movie could have been really fantastic. I read that there were two versions of this movie shot. One was very dark and the other was happy. I am assuming that the “Happy” version is the one that hit theaters and the one that I saw. It really wasn’t that “happy” or great. Yes they get the job, (SPOILER ALERT) and the girl and they make friends, yadda yadda. But this movie has been done 1,000,000 times and WAY better. Vince Vaughn was kinda funny but not enough to carry this movie past boring.

Now You See Me

I LOVED this movie!!!!

This movie was about magic and it WAS magic. Not since I saw Young Harry Houdini starring Wil Wheaton in the late 80’s have I seen a movie that really made me believe in Magic. This movie made me believe. I wanted to sit through it again in the theater right after it was over.

It takes you on a massive thrill ride through the back roads of magic and the rules that go along with that and a thriller that makes you question who the good guy is from start to finish. But in the end you are happy. Because the good guys do win and magic is real.

See this movie!!!
