MIB III A Prequel that ACTUALLY WORKS!!

By | Movies | No Comments

I am a fan of the MIB series. I LOVE Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones together. They are wonderful and I believe they ARE the Men In Black. This movie, a prequel, which often times in the movie world spells CERTAIN disaster, worked and WORKED WELL!

Seeing Josh Brolin BECOME Tommy Lee Jones was magic. He did such a seamless job that during the movie I really felt like I was watching a young Tommy. He is just such a good actor. The aliens are crazy as expected in this series and the misadventures of J and K are fun and exciting. I was touched by this movie and even cried. It shows you the power of friendship and how that can transcend even time.

Dark Shadows- SOOOOOO Disappointed in you Johnny!

The previews of this movie made it look HILARIOUS! Unfortuantely those few scenes once in context of the movie weren’t funny, even then. They movie was WAY too long and the story is just a hodgepodge of tired, old story lines that did NOT go well together.

At the end of this movie, and trust me I am NOT spoiling anything here by telling you this, they had no where to go so they must have thought “I know let’s just make a RANDOM character a werewolf and have a massive fight scene with her and a witch.” LAME. UGH! Please NEVER see this movie. NEVER!

The Perfect Family- This could be YOUR family!

By | Movies | No Comments

I went to a screening of this movie at an indie theater in Santa Monica. There was a Q and A after with some of the cast and crew. I got to meet Michael McGrady who has the daunting task of playing Kathleen Turners husband. He handles that with ease. (Oh and PS his is UNBELIEVABLY humble and nice in person.)

I LOVED this movie. This movie deals with a Catholic woman who is about to receive a MAJOR award but she has to pass muster with the higher ups and they have to meet and approve of her family. Normally I am sure this would be fine, but her family is less than perfect and she is PANICKED about how this will affect her chances.

This movie could have been about any religion or culture because none of us are perfect. This was a touching movie with fantastic performances from a dynamic cast.

The AVENGERS – AWWWWW YEAH!!!!

I had BEYOND high hopes for this movie, for a YEAR before it’s release. All the teases for it at the End of THOR, IRON MAN 2 and CAPTAIN AMERICA. I was counting the days and this movie did NOT disappoint! I thought that they took the best elements of the other movies and made them even better. Mark Ruffalo FINALLY got Bruce Banner/ HULK spot ON! And thank you to Joss Whedon for FINALLY getting the correct HULK out there.

The cast was brilliant and the story was well put together. Of course the special effects were dynamically AWESOME but that is to be expected. If you are a fan of the comic genre RUN and see this movie, BUY it on Blu-ray and watch it as much as you can. It is THAT good!

Ice Ice BABY!! On Mercury??? WHAT?

By | Technology or Nerd Central | No Comments

Who would have thought that one day we would have confirmation that there was ICE on Mercury. I don’t even know how that planet hasn’t burned to a cinder being that close to the sun. I mean in Souther Cali, where I reside, when it is 115 it FREAKS MY FREAK and I have to eat a gallon of ice to stay cool. And the ice MELTS before I can eat it all. But somehow MERCURY has ICE!! This really is amazing!!

BATTLESHIP not the Hasbro Game but WAY cooler than I thought!

I went into this movie purely for fluff/action/mancandy purposes. I mean, Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard, ummm YES please! So I had UNBELIEVABLY low expectations for this film. And knowing the Rhianna had a role just made it a bonus fluff experience.

I was shocked at how much I LOVED this movie. It had a decent storyline, except of course WHY the aliens were in the ocean and WHY they chose that day to appear, but the bad boy turned hero thing always does it for me. The special effects were crazy good and the movie moved well. Even Rhianna was decent.

If you want some mancandy with your action and some Human victory over Aliens then definitely see this movie!

Jiro Dreams of Sushi and so am I!!

I wanted to see this movie from the moment that I saw the preview! This tiny, old Japanese man just won my heart. I just wanted to scoop him up. The movie was slow and beautiful, just like his food. His restaurant, is in a subway stop in Tokyo. You have to reserve 3 months in advance to eat there and it is a minimum  $600.00 US to eat one meal. He was declared a national treasure in Japan. It is easy to see why. He pours everything into creating perfection in food. Every day he strives to make the food better than the last. I have to visit this restaurant if I ever make it to Tokyo!!!

Bully- Still shaking me to my core almost 9 months later.

By | Life, Movies | No Comments

I saw Bully near the beginning of this year and I am still thinking about it now. It haunts me. As the mother of two boys, the older of which is Autistic, this movie frightened the hell out of me.

It is hard enough growing up. Your body changes. EVERYONE goes through an awkward phase and kids are mean. I suffered through probably MORE than my fair share of bullying as a kid. I was a tomboy, still am. I LIKE having my hair short. I LOVE playing sports but it seems that doing that and being a heterosexual girl was just too WEIRD for most people around me.

Watching these kids on this movie being tortured brought up those past memories and made me hurt anew. And it made me so fearful for my son. He is different in the most beautiful way. He sees the world in a way I can’t even imagine and he is the smartest person I know. To think that ANYTHING like what happens in this movie could happen to him terrified me. And made me protective.

The lesson from this movie, TALK to your kids. Make sure they aren’t being harassed and for gods sake make sure they aren’t the ones dishing it out.
